Hunt #7 Debrief - Auckland

Midwinter Expedition
Hunt #7 Debrief - Auckland
Coin found? on 6 July 2015, at 11:25am by Tania, Sophie, Toby & Gus

This hunt put me as a huntmaster into an interesting predicament.
Now, typically I'll put the coin somewhere where I won't expect it to be found unless you're actually looking for it. This turned out not to be the case as a family of four, out for the day to "air out the kids" stumbled across the coin, which, I would like to point out, was half hidden under a rock. I guess little ones really do love looking under everything.
But, rules are rules, and as they were the first group to find the coin, they won it. But just to be fair, I hid a spare coin in the same location for anyone else looking. Again, this wasn't the case.
Oh well, lesson learned.
So here are the clues I sent out on Monday!

The Clues - Solutions and Explanations
#TheHuntAKL Clue 1 » Recognise this logo? It's open every Sun morning, but today it's the E edge of the search zone. http://ow.ly/i/bEPo4
The logo is from the Grey Lynn Farmers Market.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 2 » One of the worst islands to visit if you suffer from hay fever. Today it's the W edge of the search zone.
If you have hay fever, you certainly wouldn't want to visit Pollen Island.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 3 » If you want a chance of seeing the coin, don't stay inland.
This was my way of saying that the coin was hidden somewhere along the coastline.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 4 » What does Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, and @AklTransport all have in common?
Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are two actors that played the role of James Bond, or 007. The hiding place was at the end of the same bus route.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 5 » Here's the coin, making a splash! Watch your step getting here. http://ow.ly/i/bETUr
This was not actually the original hiding place, which you can see here. After I took the second photo, I decided to find another rock and put it on top of the coin box, just in case.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 6 » This next clue is written in emoji.
This clue was fun to write, I'll have to think of more clues like this. My translation is: "At the top of Point Chevalier, where there's lot's of pine trees, go down to the water."
#TheHuntAKL Clue 7 » They cheer on the pirates, every Saturday!
The Pirates are the name of Point Chevalier's local Rugby team.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 8 » Picture clue! Say what you see. http://ow.ly/i/bEVG7
This clue should be read as KOI + L + PARK(ING) = Coyle Park.
#TheHuntAKL Clue 9 » The next point West from Te Tokaroa Reef.
Te Tokaroa Reef is the alternate name of Meola Reef. The coin was hidden west of here, at the tip of Point Chevalier.

Answer - The Coin's Location
As always, the final clue will always tell you exactly where the coin is. For this hunt, the coin was hidden down by the water at the Northern tip of Coyle Park, Point Chevalier.

Congratulations to Tania, Sophie, Toby & Gus for finding the coin first!

Unused Draft Clues
In the hunt writing process, some clues get scrapped because they didn't fit in with the rest, were too vague, too difficult, or for other reasons. Here are the clues that didn't make the cut:
» The S edge of the search zone is where @AliceTBM emerged last September.
Alice is the name of the Tunnel Boring Machine that is currently digging the Waterview Connection.

Upcoming Hunts
Ok so that's one hunt down out of the six this month. Stick around for the next one happening in Hamilton this Saturday!
As always, if you're following @hunt_clues on Twitter you'll be among the first to know what I'm up to, and if a hunt is happening in your area!

So long for now.
