Hunt #11 Debrief - Christchurch

Midwinter Expedition
Hunt #11 Debrief - Christchurch
Coin found on 25 July 2015, at 2:15pm by Celeste

Although it may have been a nail-biting finish to see if the coin would eventually be found, my first outing in Christchurch proved to be a fun one! I tried making use of local landmarks for this one, and although I couldn't visibly see a large turnout, I later found out there were at least a couple of people playing along online! Awesome!

The Clues - Solutions and Explanations
#TheHuntCHC Clue 1 » The coin is hidden within the avenues. I'm not sure if there's 4, 5, or more; but you won't need to go outside them!
"The Avenues" are the main roads of Bealey, Fitzgerald, Moorhouse and Deans.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 2 » The second clue… is a secret. But it should be written on a purple padlock at the cathedral's cairn. Go and find it!
This was a physical clue written on a padlock I had temporarily attached to the cairn of river stones, near the ChristChurch Cathedral on Cathedral Square. Here's a picture.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 3 » Sit down, and it talks back to you.If you go any further east of there, you won’t find the treasure.
I got guided around the city before the day of the hunt, and got shown the talking seats on Worcester Boulevard. I just had to come up with a clue for them!
#TheHuntCHC Clue 4 » This clue is written in emoji:

Another emoji clue! I'm enjoying these!
Here's how I translated it:
"Where do these two paths meet at the river?
From a statue that looks toward the bridge of remembrance, walk north-west.
From a fountain named after a bird, or man, walk south-west."
#TheHuntCHC Clue 5 » Here's a picture of the coin's hiding place… where am I?ow.ly/i/c0nzU
As always, Clue 5 is a picture clue of the coin's location.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 6 » Having lunch at a café that shares its name with a forest where you could catch a Celebi, or a special Pichu. #Pokemon
This clue got two favourites on Twitter, almost instantly! People must be constantly checking that Pokémon hashtag!
So the forest in question is the Ilex Forest, and I had lunch at the Ilex Café at the Botanic Gardens.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 7 » @Mag_Smith_ & @IanMcKellen famously put their support behind this place. Cross only one street from where it stood.
This was another clue I wouldn't have known without local knowledge. It's the Court Theatre, which used to be at the Christchurch Arts Centre until the 2011 earthquake.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 8 » Head southwest from the museum. Continue walking to the end of the path, then perhaps you'll hit the quack-pot.
This clue should direct you to the coin, although it's not in plain sight. If you found a whole bunch of ducks on the day you'd have been in the right place.
#TheHuntCHC Clue 9 » Make your way to XLIII DXXXIIS CLXXII DCXXVIE. Keep close to the river; the coin should be mere meters away.
These are GPS coordinates, leading to 43.532S, 172.626E. It's about the closest place I could give you without giving the coin's location away!

Answer - The Coin's Location
As always, the final clue will always tell you exactly where the coin is. For this hunt, the coin was hidden on the bank of the Avon River, near the west end of Hereford Street.

Congratulations to Celeste for finding the coin first!

That's all for this debrief; stay tuned for more!

So long for now.
